It was a busy week for VinBrain when we hosted unprecedented visit of two renowned executive leaders in R&D and medical technology. Doctor YongDong Wang, a Ph.D. from UC Berkeley, with decades of experience in R&D, and Dr. Gregory Moore, a Ph.D. engineer from MIT, clinical informaticist, radiologist, and neuroscientist.
In addition to discussing HealthTech and the application of AI in medical care, our distinguished guests also explored the hottest topic in technology today - how AI is transforming the world. They were also impressed by ChatGPT, the linguistic chatbot that has taken the world by storm lately. ChatGPT is the latest technology that VinBrain has combined with AI computer vision models to form a more efficient and comprehensive solution impacting 700 million people in Southeast Asia and beyond. Our VinBrain language understanding capabilities allow for the accurate identification of key information in patient medical reports, enabling more precise and timely medical diagnoses based on multi-modalities AI models while eliminating complex medical jargon.
Looking at the future of AI, Dr. Moore shared a former Bill Gates quote: "We always overestimate the change that will occur in the next two years and underestimate the change that will happen in the next ten". He believes that with the presence of ChatGPT, it is the beginning of a new era where the application of AI will progress very quickly and take root in life exponentially. He predicted that everyone would have their own AI assistant to assist them in their daily activities and work.
To boost and advance the development of AI innovation further, he emphasized having more curiosity. He encouraged all to ask questions constantly and bring a multidisciplinary approach to problem solving and solution building, "bring non-expertise domains in collaboration with focused domain experts," to deeply empathize and design solutions with an eye towards the future without tying them to the present. "Bring curiosity – I know it's cliché," he laughed, "but there are no stupid questions, and you'll find out that there are several ways that by working collaboratively you will find a better path forward more quickly."
Doctor YongDong Wang found himself in agreement with Dr. Moore on the future of AI. He noted that with the progress of AI, this tool is now accessible to everyone. However, he also candidly admitted that where there are opportunities, there will also be challenges. "However, in the US and China, some people are very worried that bad people can use AI for bad purposes." Despite these concerns, he believed that humans already have enough intelligence to control how we turn technology into good service for humanity and minimize negative impacts.
With the integration of ChatGPT into a suite of artificial intelligence products for medical applications, the two leaders believe in the potential and power of medical technology solutions designed and developed by VinBrain. They both agreed that VinBrain has been at the forefront and going very fast in a short time, and this was a rare case globally. Dr. Moore and Doctor Wang commended VinBrain for its good contributions to society and for bringing to market a product that brings hope and joy to patients globally by enabling access to care.
The visit of top leaders and delegations from the technology and medical fields was a thrilling and unique experience for all VinBrain employees. Despite having limited time, both Hanoi and HCM City teams were highly engaged and eager to learn from their guests, posing numerous insightful questions. This talk provided inspiration and fueled the teams' commitment to creating more AI-powered innovations.
